Until 1980 inclusive, there were no separate Country Bodybuilding Championships in Latvia. Our best athletes competed in the championships in neighboring Lithuania. In 1981, in Daugavpils, was held First Latvian Championship (then – the Latvian SSR) by CULTURISM (then – athletics). From this year onwards, Latvia began to hold its National Championships every year (even if they were not official).
In 1997, the Latvian WFF (we were already admitted to WFF-international) received official state registration and continued the competition in a new status – OFFICIAL NATIONAL LATVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP ON BODYBILDING AND FITNESS.
