Latvian Bench Press Championships have been regularly held by our Federation since 1981. Since 2004, they are held in four weight categories:

Latvian Classic Bench Press Championship 2010 was traditionally held on the central city square of Daugavpils. The absolute champion was Bobrov Ivan (Daugavpils, “Fitness Center“)

The first competitions, in which our athletes participated in the classical bench press, were held in 1968 in Klaipeda (“Amber Prix“). The best pressman in Latvia, there was Sharov Boris, with the result of 130 kg.
The first Latvian championship in classical bench press, was held in 1981 in Daugavpils (champion – Sergey Ignatiev – 175 kg) and since then it has been regularly held there.
The current weight categories (75, 90, 105 and +105) were introduced in 2004.

The rules:

– the classic bench press technique:
The athlete lies on the bench, either alone or with the help of the partner(s), removes the bar from the stands, lowers it to the chest before touching it and squeezes it up (no pause in the lower phase is required), after fixing the bar on straight arms, the athlete puts the bar on the stands on his own or with the help of partners.

– in the classic bench press
It is forbidden: to use pressure T-shirts for powerlifting, to use bandages, during the exercise to hit the barbell on the chest, to tear the pelvis from the bench (“to pave”). During the exercise, the bar should move horizontally to the floor, without distortions.
– The maximum allowed width of the grip bar – 70 cm.

– in the classic bench press, competitions are held among men in the following categories: up to 75 kg, up to 90, up to 105 and over 105 kg.
